What, exactly, is this website about?

This is a site for movies of a Satanic nature. "Satanic Movies" are not necessarily horror movies involving demons, movies with anti-Christian scenes, and the like. Here you will find movies that, in one way or another, reflect the principles of Satanism, a religion first properly codefied and openly practiced by Anton LaVey (1930-97), who is the author of books such as The Satanic Bible, and founder of the Church of Satan. If you wish to learn more about this religion and the Church of Satan ("CoS"), try the official site at www.ChurchOfSatan.com. Please do not email Hellywood for information regarding Satanism or the CoS itself.

From where does this list of movies come?

Blanche Barton, the current High Priestess of the CoS, also authored the book Church of Satan, where one will find a list of "Satanic Movies".

Unfortuneately, descriptions of these movies were not included. What this website provides is that movie list with links to each movie's entry on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB), and more information as it is received.

Why link to the IMDB? Why not just type your own descriptions?

First of all, I have not seen all of these movies. I reason that the plotlines described on the IMDB are better than nothing. Second, the IMDB provides additional information such as cast, a picture of the movie poster, trivia, etc. Third, as much as I'd like to just copy this information over to here, the entries on the IMDB (a BIG site) are copyrighted.

While the IMDB is by far the most comprehensive source on the internet for movie information, Hellywood more than welcomes additional commentary and reviews from Satanists. See the end of this document for more details.

But why this particular list of movies? And isn't what makes a 'good movie' just a matter of taste? Doesn't it go against the Satanic cornerstone of individuality?

To find a movie that actually glorifies the principles we uphold, can actually be quite a rare thing. A well-done movie which actually portrays a positive view of indulgence, vengence, non-conformity, stratification, etc. are not nearly as common as one may think. THESE are the sorts of movies you will find here. And many Satanists would be interested in renting such a refreshingly different video. Sure we all have our different collecitons of personal favorites, but not all of them fit the description I just mentioned.

What the hell does [movie so-and-so] have to do with Satanism?!?

Most often, this question is asked by those who do not know much about Satanism. For example, if you haven't heard of Pentagonal Revisionism, you probably wouldn't understand why Westworld is on this list. And I admit that the descriptions as given by the IMDB may not always make it clear what the Satanic aspect is. Still, I am hoping to have additional descriptions of all these movies by Satanists some day. In the mean time, please refrain from emailing me this question.

Are you currently taking suggestions for additional movies to add to the list?

No. As much as I would like to do that someday, for the time being I'd like to stick to getting thorough information on the original film list as presented in Church of Satan. Plus, with the diverse personal tastes among Satanists, I don't know if I would have time to add every single suggestion emailed to me to the main list. Also, if I did that, I'm sure just about every movie would somehow eventually make it to the list!

Are you currently taking essays and/or brief Satanic descriptions of the movies already listed?

Yes! Feel free to send them in. Please just follow these guidelines:

Choose one format- either a plot description (no bigger than a decent-sized paragraph) or an essay (a number of paragraphs, to about two pages max). And still tell me which one it is you're sending.
Only write about a movie which hasn't yet been written about here. This will help me reach the site's first goal- to get some info on every movie in the list.
In either case, please point out some of the specifically Satanic aspects (or make it obvious to a Satanist that the movie contains such themes).
If you'd like, include titles of two to five of your favorite movies, not found on the list (whether strictly "Satanic" or not). A little line for "suggestions" will be added to the bottom of your description/essay. If a movie title shows up as a popular favorite amongst satanists, it might be added to the list in the future.
If you write a good essay, it may be one of the "Features of the Month"
Keep in mind that most people haven't seen these movies. So if there is information that would "ruin" the movie for somebody (such as describing the surprise ending to an Alfred Hitchcock movie), please try to refrain from mentioning it.
I will give you due credit for your work, which includes posting your name with a link to your email address. If you do NOT want this, or would prefer a link to your website, let me know. Otherwise I will assume I have your permission.

And finally, please note that this site is in its beginning stages. I hope to keep adding to it an improving it as time goes on. When enough reviews have been made, a separate page of those will be added.
