Dear Residents of Stoddard A,

Good afternoon, I hope this email finds each of you having a wonderful day.

I wanted to take some time to email everyone in the building about some recent events that have taken place.  It was brought to my attention today, that someone has used duct tape to write "Res. Services hates Stoddard A" on the window.  I wanted to address this, and let each of you know this is not the case.  We are working hard to create a safe, fun, learning living environment in each of our halls.  I would ask that the individual, who put this on the window, please read this email closely, and remove the duct tape from the window.

First of all, let me start by telling all of you that I am so happy you are enjoying the lounges to spend time with your friends, studying, and playing games.  With this in mind I wanted to take some time to address a few concerns that have been seen the past couple of weeks.

First concern is the amount of trash that is being left in the lounges when

they are not in use.    It is very important that each of you remember to

throw away your left over food, containers, soda cans, and all trash when you are finished using the lounge.  This is not only in respect for the custodian that cleans your building every day, but also for health reasons.  By leaving food and other such items out on tables, and the floor, we are creating a great feeding ground for mice and other bugs to enter our buildings.  By simply throwing away the items at the end of your time in the lounge, it will help prevent any unwanted creatures as well as help our custodian keep your building clean.

Second concern is that your personal belongings are being left in the lounge.

It is important that you do not leave your personal belongings in the lounge because these items may disappear and  WPI is not responsible for any stolen or damaged property.  By remembering to put your stuff back in your room when you are finished it will help prevent any theft or damage to your belongings.

Third concern is building things such as forts in the lounges

with duct tape, blankets and furniture.    Duct tape should not be used on

any of the walls, windows, or furniture in halls due to the damage it does create.  Removal of the duct tape not only brakes off pieces of the furniture, the left over residue leaves marks and stains on it as well.

Also, as I addressed earlier leaving items such as blankets out over night is a theft concern, and also does not provide an environment for others who may wish to use the lounge.  It is also a concern when things are hanging from the lights in the lounge, due to fire safety.  It may not seem as if lights get very hot, however, due to the fact that the blankets are flammable and heat is being produced from these lights the potential for a fire is there.

The last thing you or I want is to see a fire started in your new community.

Your RA staff as well as the Residential Services staff is concerned with the health and safety of everyone in the building.  By no means is anyone just picking on Stoddard A, we would address these issues in any of the residence halls.  I hope this email will provide each of you with some clarification from your RA staff and Residential Services staff.  We are working hard to provide you with a safe living environment.  If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak with your RA, or stop by and make an appointment to speak with me.

Thank You,

Sonja Korum
