DART ANCESTORS


RICHARD DART was born about 1635, son of _?_ and _?_. He may have come from Scotland. He appeared in New London in 1662 and made his first property purchase, the house of William Welman, on 12 September 1664 which is about when he married Bethia(h) ___.

ROGER DART was born in New London, CT on 22 Nov 1670 (NL 1:7, called Robert), son of Richard Dart and Bethia __?__.

WILLIAM DART, Sr. was born in New London on 12 December 1730 (NL 2:14), son of Roger Dart and Prudence Beckwith.

STEDMAN DART was born in New London, CT on 9 Oct 1764 (NL 3:58), son of William Dart, Sr and Mary Chapman

EZRA DART was born in Waterford about 1797/9 (GtnD 5-478, census), son of Stedman Dart and Sally Wheeler. He married Eunice G [?Green?] NEWBURY (Emma) about 1820/25. She was born 2 October 1798 in Groton, CT (___, Baker p472), daughter of Nathan Newbury and Welthan Green. He was a farmer with a homestead in Groton a bit west of Gungywump Hill and very near the border with Ledyard. He died in Groton, CT on 22 February 1881 (GtnD 5-478) (gravemarker says 20 Feb 1880 but listed in 1880 Census for Groton), and she died in Groton on 27 Dec 1884 at 86 (GtnD 5-498). They both died of “old age” and are buried in the Starr Burying Ground, Groton, CT.

CHRISTOPHER G [?Green?] DART was born in ?Groton, CT on 15 February 1843 (___), son of Ezra Dart and Eunice G Newbury. He was married to Ann Elisa FAULKNER on 26 January 1864 in Groton (GtnM 4-20) by William A Smith. She was born on 20 April 1846 in ?Yantic, CT (___), the daughter of John Faulkner and Amy Ann Crocker. He was a farmer. He died in Groton, CT in an accident on 20 May 1885 (GtnD 5-502) and is buried in Starr Cemetery (no gravemarker).

She married second William David ADAMS (c1838/40 Ledyard - 1920/4?) on 3 August 1889 (NL 5A). He was the son of Hannah and William Adams of Ledyard, CT. They lived in the Pleasant Valley - Gungywump section of Groton, CT during 1900-1910 on the Ezra Dart family farm. He was known for wearing a tamoshanter and she was a midwife She lived with daughter Nellie from at least 1924 through 1934 indicating William died before 1924 (not found in 1920 census index). She died of cerebral hemorrhage at Abbott’s Crossing in Coventry, RI (daughter Gertrude’s home) on 13 June 1935 (CovD-80) and is buried in the Dart lot at Starr Cemetery in Groton, CT (no gravemarker).
