VDSL - Very High-Rate Digital Subscriber Lines

by Pedro Soria-Rodríguez, sorrodp@ece, March 14 1997

Project Proposal.

VDSL is the latest and highest speed version of a series of Digital Subscriber Line (xDSL) technologies that are being developed to allow high speed, asymmetric data transmission to homes and businesses possible over telephone local loop wiring. You will report on the technology of VDSL with as much technical detail about the low level protocol as you can find.
How does it work? How fast is it? Over what distances can it be used? What is its current status as a standard? Which companies are offering equipment that support it, if any? Be sure to provide references to the technical literature and web sites at which you found the information you are describing. Where, if anywhere is such a system being tested? Describe the extent of this installation.
