This page is a memorial to my trusty GNU/Linux firewall box, in honor of its first year of continuous uptime.

Hostname:
klein (for mathematician Felix Klein 1849-1925)
Model:
Multia
Make:
Digital Equipment Corporation
Year:
1995
CPU:
166 MHz Alpha LCA4 (64-bit)
RAM:
64MB (error-correcting parity RAM)
Storage:
1.2GB internal IDE hard disk
Display:
1991 DEC VT420 serial terminal
OS:
Debian GNU/Linux
Mission:
packet-forwarding Internet gateway and firewall

Update:

Only nine days after reaching the one-year mark for continuous uptime, a severe thunderstorm caused klein to reboot. The final syslog marker to reach stable storage before the reboot was marked 26 August 16:16:34. Klein's confirmed span of continuous uptime was therefore 374 days 2 hours and 23 minutes in length -- not the longest I've heard for similar hardware, but certainly a record in my household.

Klein came back up shortly thereafter -- the beginning of a new record?
